Bring on the Snow!

Tuesday, November 16, 2010 - Well it's Wyoming. And it's winter. The snow was bound to come sometime soon.

We encountered our first snow storm today driving from Casper to Laramie and it was a whiteout for quite some time. Our superb truck drivers handled the obstacle with great skill and we made it safe and sound to Laramie.

We started our day out in Buffalo before heading onto Casper. However, an additional stop was requested by the Team in Kaycee to visit the Chris LeDoux Memorial. A group of true Wyomingites, songs by LeDoux were played throughout the caravan the rest of the day.

After the stop, it was onwards to Casper where the Tree visited the National Historic Trails Center. We were thrilled to see so many smiling faces for a special ribbon cutting ceremony!

We arrived in Laramie in the middle of a snowstorm and quickly needed to refuel. We headed to the Loaf 'N Jug where their wonderful team took such great care of us. Their awesome staff fueled up our vehicles and even cleaned our windshields - in the middle of a snowstorm!

The snow let up just in time for the festivities to begin. There were several guest speakers including representatives of Senators John Barrasso, Mike Enzi and Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis as well as Laramie Mayor Jodi Guerin, who has been involved with the 2010 Capitol Christmas Tree Project for nearly a year. The Laramie High School Band and Cheerleading squad gave a special performance that kept the crowd moving and warm!

On hand at the Laramie community celebration was the 2011 Miss Rodeo Wyoming, Brittany Richards. We just need to find Miss Teen Wyoming and Little Miss Wyoming and the Tree will have been visited by all our state's royalty!

After the celebration in Laramie, Team Tree was invited to dinner with the Wyoming Army National Guard at the National Armory in Laramie. We enjoyed a home-cooked meal and great company with our service men and women. A big thanks to Captain Pez and everyone at the Armory for having us!
